ARTIST STATEMENT
Anna is mainly interested is animalistics, primitive cultures and prehistoric times.

Animals occupy a special place in the author's work, because they belong to a more authentic and accepting world, where there is spontaneity and direct self-expression. The animal world is surprisingly diverse. Anna is interested in bizarre animals, ancient, extinct or rare. In their uniqueness, animals can manifest themselves naturally and sincerely. She felt being friends with animals since childhood. Unlike humans, they don't have to pretend to be someone else to be loved, they don't have to anticipate someone's expectations. Love for animals is unconditional - when you are loved not for your achievements, but simply because you are a living creature which makes someone really happy. Anna is very touched by the stories where people save animals, give them their care and then return them to the wild.

In sculpture, Anna strives for a recognizable image of an animal, but also explores a generalized form which simplifies the image to the very characteristic features. She finds inspiration is rock art and artifacts of primitive cultures. The world that existed sometime, for the author is a connection with a deep part of her inner world, a preverbal primitive "warm" reality. Anna emphasizes the rich relief of chamotte clay, which makes the works resemble ancient stones. Collapsing textures show the flow of time, as if the objects were found in excavations and belong to the distant past. The sculptures give the impression of something primordial, ancient and timeless, not man-made.
PRACTICES AND TECHNIQUES
Anna works with ceramics and stone. In sculpture, she likes to feel the direct contact with materials, it gives tactile sensations from the pre-verbal world.
She loves clay because it allows her to express sensations without analysis and preliminary mental work. To create a matte complex textures, she chooses the roughest chamotte clay and emphasizes the surface relief with oxides, glazes, engobes and several firings - until she gets the feeling that the object was found during excavations. It often seems to people that her ceramic pieces are made of stone.

Exploring the generalized form and primitive techniques, she began to experiment with stone. She chooses soft porous types of stone - such as tuff, limestone, shell rock - and processes them manually. The refusal to use an electric tool gives a feeling of something primitive and authentic. The stone requires quite a lot of labor, but I can feel a gorgeous power and weight inside it.
